“Mission”. Quickly, what comes to your
mind when your read that word? A silhouetted outline
of someone walking toward a sunset, never to be seen
or heard of again? Mud huts and pith helmets? Someone
wearing a cheesecloth shirt and a pair of sandals?
Or is it someone engaged in radical,
life-changing work?
What is your response to Jesus’ call to his followers
to go, and make disciple of all nations? Have you ever
thought about the implications behind that statement?
The cost and the challenges involved? For example: meeting
people where they are at, standing with them in their
joys and sorrows, building friendship and relationships
of trust, adjusting to a new culture, learning a new
language, adjusting to a different standard of living,
going against the flow of our instant culture.
Another question: how long do
you think all of this takes? Days, weeks, months, years?
Interserve is building God’s kingdom. Our work
is to reach out with God’s love and the good news
of Jesus Christ. This takes time, often a long time.
We are committed to giving that time. Are you?
